The Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre provides comprehensive training in musical theatre while maintaining a firm grounding in the liberal arts. The goal is to foster flexibility and versatility in students to enable them to participate in musical theatre on a number of levels. The program’s objectives are far reaching. Students will leave the program with the knowledge and confidence to participate in educational, professional or semiprofessional productions with competence and skill. Graduates are active in community and regional theatre organizations, assist and provide leadership in primary and secondary school productions and often continue their education in musical theatre

BS in Musical Theatre
This major is offered to those students who demonstrate excellence in acting, dance and singing, and who are committed to professional careers in musical theatre performances. This collaborative program through Russell Sage College and the New York State Theatre Institute (NYSTI) offers students training in the creative process as well as theory and history. All majors will complete 15 credits of major study with NYSTI, the professional youth theatre of New York State. There is a $250 fee for the internship with NYSTI. Students will study, train and perform with Russell Sage faculty and the teacher artists
New York City offers unique opportunities for the student interested in musical theatre as both a performer and historian. Many new musicals are developed in New York each year offering students a wide variety of opportunities to participate in the creative process. The New York Public Library and Lincoln Center contains a vast collection of taped Broadway musicals on video documenting beloved live performances. The Museum of Television and Radio and The Museum of the City of New York also have important musical theatre collections. In addition, students can avail themselves of discount tickets to the best of Broadway and
Theatre is alive, vital and convivial at Plattsburgh State. Every year our two performing spaces are beehives of activity with productions either in preparation or in performance.
At the same time, a full compliment of classes provides training for both the serious and the casual student of acting, stagecraft and dramatic history and literature.
All productions and classes are open to all students. So whether you just have a slight interest in theatre (or a bit of ham in you) or whether you're more dedicated to it and want to join the thirty to forty theatre majors, you are very welcome to
All students who indicate Theatre as their first major preference and are academically accepted by the university are automatically admitted to the Bachelor of Arts General Theatre Studies program.
