Why study music?
The music department at St. Norbert College is a place that is full of exciting and challenging opportunities for music students. Whether you focus your musical experiences on instrumental music, choral music, performance or music education, we have what you need to be successful. Graduates of our programs have gone on to be successful in graduate school, professional careers and as teachers. This is the result of a long tradition of fine teaching in a setting where students come first.

Music is considered not merely a skill to be mastered, but more deeply as an expression of the feelings, values and convictions found throughout humanity. The study, performance and creation of music can lead to an awareness of one’s own values. Students are exposed to various aspects of music history, theory and performance with the intent of fostering a life-long understanding of music, thereby influencing their careers and vocations. Students encounter music from major time periods, religious beliefs and cultures with the purpose of developing understanding and acceptance.
