The Music Department at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown allows students to explore the world of music within a liberal arts education. The music department offers courses in music theory, music history, popular music, and jazz history. Performing groups include the Concert Choir, the Concert Band and the Women’s Chorus. The curriculum of the department is designed to provide students an opportunity to increase performance skills, music literacy and critical thinking, both through performance and classroom instruction.

While the majority of the courses offered by the music department are geared toward general education, students wishing to study music more intensely may pursue a minor in music (see the Music Minor webpage for more details). A student who wishes to pursue a degree in music must relocate to the main campus to complete his/her undergraduate degree.

The major in Theatre includes a full complement of courses in acting, directing, stage lighting, theatre graphics, and repertory theatre.
